Canaima National Park

A mystical journey to a prehistoric 'Lost World.' Home to the majestic Angel Falls

Descubre Canaima National Park

Overview: A Geological Wonder Canaima National Park is not just a travel destination; it is a journey back in time. Covering over 30,000 square kilometers in southeastern Venezuela, about 65% of the park is occupied by tepuys—awe-inspiring, flat-topped mountains with vertical cliffs that date back over 2 billion years. These majestic plateaus represent some of the oldest exposed geological formations on Earth, creating a unique ecosystem where evolutionary history has stood still. This extraordinary territory is divided into two breathtaking realms: the dense, river-carved rainforests of the western sector, home to Angel Falls, and the vast, undulating highlands of the eastern sector, universally known as The Gran Sabana. Cultural Heritage: The Sacred Land of the Pemón The true soul of Canaima lies in its indigenous heritage. This ancient territory is the ancestral home of the Pemón people, who have coexisted with this landscape for centuries. For the Pemón, the tepuys are sacred structures, revered as the homes of powerful spirits (Mawari). Our expeditions are guided by native Pemón experts, offering travelers a rare and deeply respectful glimpse into their worldview, cosmological myths, and profound harmony with nature. Whether navigating the mystical rivers near the falls or crossing the golden horizons of The Gran Sabana. Visiting Canaima is as much a cultural awakening as it is a natural exploration. International Recognition & Awards: Canaima’s extraordinary ecological, geological, and cultural value has earned it prestigious global accolades: UNESCO World Heritage Site: In 1994, UNESCO designated Canaima National Park as a World Heritage Site due to its unparalleled geological importance and the unique biodiversity found nowhere else on Earth. Global Acclaim for Angel Falls: Known locally as Kerepakupai Merú, Angel Falls plunges an astonishing 979 meters (3,212 feet). It stands globally celebrated as the World's Highest Uninterrupted Waterfall and is a permanent fixture on international bucket lists of the world's greatest natural wonders. The Majestic Gran Sabana Plateau: As the eastern gateway to the park, this immense, rolling plateau offers one of the world's most spectacular overland expeditions. Characterized by its dramatic valleys, red-jasper riverbeds, crystal-clear waterfalls like Kama Merú, and sweeping panoramic views of the Eastern Tepuis chain, it is an essential paradise for high-adventure explorers. Cinematic & Literary Inspiration: This surreal landscape has captured the global imagination for generations. It served as the direct inspiration for Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic novel "The Lost World", and its breathtaking scenery inspired the paradise landscapes in Hollywood masterpieces such as Disney-Pixar's "Up" and James Cameron's "Avatar".
